History of Exercise Thought

Exercise Thought opened in Lilydale in early 2020 with one Physio and one Concierge. The first COVID-19 lockdown began only weeks later. Physiotherapy 'essential' and so remained open during this and every other lockdown. We cared for clients face-to-face and over video during self-isolations. Video consultations enabled our physios to treat clients across Australia and overseas. We also begun hosting physio students during this time. Over 100 physio students have learned in our Lilydale practice. Physio students attended via Zoom when distance or lockdowns made travel difficult.

Three more physios and three more concierge joined us in Lilydale before 2023. We now have five physios and four concierge. We opened a practice in Ringwood to provide hydrotherapy in 2021-2022. This practice closed so we could focus on growing in Lilydale. We added services to include physiotherapy, osteopathy, exercise physiology, clinical pilates, massage, hydrotherapy and dry needling. We now provide clinical pilates every day. Our clients love having a physio to guide and prescribe exercises in this fun and social setting. In 2022 we also started specialised arthritis classes and a free Falls & Balance (FAB) class. The FAB class is 10.30am Wednesdays in Melba Park Lilydale. This class has proven popular with over 100 people attending in the first year. Our team received a Community Service award from Yarra Ranges Council for this class.

Future

Our vision is to be the most known and loved physio practice in Lilydale and the Yarra Valley before 2025. We will then grow into a hub that provides a range of preventative and responsive services. At the heart of our long-term vision is a desire to elevate the health of the Lilydale community. We will continue to partner with local referrers, clubs, clinics and community groups so that more people have access to the highest quality healthcare. We aim to help Lilydale with more than top-level physio. We know that obesity, alcohol, domestic violence and chronic disease are big issues. We have plans for addressing these problems with a range of solutions. Part of our future is building deeper connections with our community. We will continue to be members of the following community groups:

• Lilydale Township and Action Group

• Lilydale Business and Traders

• Yarra Valley Business

Being a member of these groups enables us to align ourselves with the needs and goals of Lilydale.
